Where walks start
Five different meeting points, all but one of them inside the old city. The guided ghost walk meets on Nytorv in front of the court house and ends at Kongens Nytorv by Nyhavn. The nightman’s walk meets at the statue of Absalon on Højbro Plads; the folk legends walk in front of the University steps. The giants walk meets at Valdemarsgade in Vesterbro. The two self-guided hunts begin wherever their route begins, whenever you decide to start.

The guided ghost walk: Nytorv

You meet on Nytorv, in front of the court house. The guide is in a black cloak with a lantern, which makes them the easiest person in the square to identify. Nytorv sits on Strøget between Gammeltorv and the rest of the old city, so you can walk to it from almost anywhere in the centre. The walk ends an hour and a half later at Kongens Nytorv, at the top of Nyhavn, which is a useful place to be released: there is food and a metro station within a minute. The walk in full.

The nightman’s walk: Højbro Plads

Meet by the statue of Absalon on Højbro Plads. This one runs in Danish only, for 75 minutes, and covers the natmænd — the men who emptied the latrines, removed carcasses, dismembered executed criminals and assisted the executioner, were counted uærlige, dishonourable, and lived in a parallel society with its own rules and its own language. Same operator as the ghost walk. See the nightman’s tour and who the nightmen were.

The folk legends walk: the University steps

Meet in front of the University steps, for 90 minutes in Danish covering the Devil loose in Laksegade, a widow buried alive, a bride whose anger darkened the sun, and where several Danish phrases come from. Also the same operator: the folk legends walk.

The six forgotten giants: Valdemarsgade

The only meeting point outside the old city. Valdemarsgade 15, 1665 Copenhagen, in Vesterbro — look for the building marked VESTERBROS K.F.U.M. From there the group travels by private transport out of the city to find Thomas Dambo’s six wooden trolls: Sleeping Louis, Hilltop Trine, Oscar Under the Bridge, Thomas on the Mountain, Little Tilde and Teddy Friendly. Four hours, in daylight, with a coffee break and a meal. Marta from Italy called it a wonderful way to see a slightly different side of Denmark. The giants page.

The two hunts: you decide

Neither hunt has a meeting point in the usual sense, because nobody is meeting you. What they have is a route with a beginning.

The Round Tower hunt, set in 1899, starts at Rundetårn and runs through Gråbrødretorv, Købmagergade and Strøget to Vor Frue Kirke, Gammeltorv and Vor Frue Plads. The Amalienborg hunt begins at the pier and runs past the Aleksander Nevskij Church, Skt Annæ Plads and the Odd Fellow’s Mansion to Nyhavn and Lille Sandstræde. Both are in English or Danish, both are analogue — paper and a pen, no phone — and both want a party of at least two, with two to four the size they are built for. The Amalienborg one stays valid for 93 days, so you can buy it before you travel and start it whenever the weather and the mood agree.

From the archive

Arrive a few minutes early for anything guided. These are small groups and the route does not double back, so a late arrival on Nytorv has no way of catching up an hour-and-a-half walk that finishes on the other side of the old city. For the hunts, the opposite advice: there is nothing to be late for.

Getting to each of them

Nytorv, Højbro Plads, the University steps and Rundetårn are all within the old city and within a few minutes of one another on foot; Strøget, pedestrianised in 1962 at 1.1 km, connects most of them. Kongens Nytorv, where the ghost walk ends, is on the metro. Valdemarsgade in Vesterbro is the one that needs planning, and it is also the one where being late costs you a whole day rather than an evening. More on getting around Copenhagen and whether Copenhagen is walkable.

Before you set off

Check the light. In October the walk from your hotel to Nytorv is already dark by half past four; in June the sun is up until 9:57 pm and nothing about the evening will feel like an evening. The sunset table is the page to read first, and the English-language picture tells you which of these five you can actually understand.

Check dates & book

The widget will tell you one thing faster than any page can: the guided walk runs on set evenings and the calendar is thin. A reviewer from the United Kingdom who enjoyed the walk in August 2026 still put the same complaint in writing — “the lack of choice for dates.. only one available for the whole month”. Look at the dates before you build an evening around it. The English-language picture is narrower than most capitals.
